What we believe

Whitefriars is a trinitarian charismatic evangelical Anglican Church, firmly committed to take the Good News of Jesus Christ into the wider community in word and deed.

This means:

Trinitarian - we believe in One God in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Charismatic - we believe that we have to receive the Holy Spirit to become a Christian and the Spirit empowers us to live out our Christian Faith. We expect to see the fruit of the Spirit developing as we grow in faith and that God graciously provides various gifts of the Spirit to build up his church.

Evangelical - we believe that the bible is God’s word through which He reveals himself and, properly interpreted, provides all we need in terms of right conduct and practice. The bible is our ultimate source of authority.  We believe “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,”. 2 Timothy‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬

Anglican - part of the worldwide Anglican Communion and the Church of England nationally.  We operate within the parish system in England and under the authority of the Bishop of Peterborough.

Good News of Jesus Christ - that “Salvation is found in no one else [than Jesus Christ], for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”  Acts‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭NIV‬‬ and “it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—”. Ephesians‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬

We believe that God calls us to share this Good News of hope with others that they might discover the fullness of life promised to those who believe.

We are guided by the Great Commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”  Mark‬ ‭12:30-31‬ ‭NIV‬‬ and the Great Commission: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Matthew‬ ‭28:19-20‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬
